Sometimes healing looks a lot like renovation.

When I first began restoring my childhood home, I stared at the falling off siding, dark paneling throughout the 4 bedrooms, the hundreds of sample carpets my mom had laid down back in the 70’s, and old windows with thin insulation or voids that drew in cold Adirondack winters.

It felt overwhelming at times. But step by step, with the right help, focus, tools, and knowledge, things began to shift.

Wall by wall, room by room, a new light began to pour in. Warmth replaced the draft, and the space transformed into something whimsical, beautiful, and life-giving.

The house had the support of builders, electricians, plumbers, and family who encouraged me—sometimes dropping off tools or filling my fridge when there was no time to cook. Friends gave me thumbs-up and energy when I needed it most. That support carried me through the messy middle.
